Let’s explore the Twister band history and its exciting path in Brazilian pop rock. Formed in 2000, Twister has been mixing lively melodies and high-energy shows. Their sound carries the vibrant spirit of Brazil. When they released “40 graus,” it was a game changer. Their debut album flew off the shelves, selling 250,000 copies. Despite obstacles, they’ve captivated fans in Brazil and internationally. Their music also brings British rock vibes, adding to their distinctive sound.
The Origins of Twister in Brazil
Twister began in the lively music world of Campinas, Brazil, in 2000. Businessman Hélio Batista saw Sander Mecca sing covers in a São Paulo bar. Seeing his potential, he helped create Twister, leading them to success.
The band started with Sander Mecca singing and playing guitar, Luciano Lucca on keyboards, Leo Richter on bass, Gilson Campos on the drums, and Alex Bandera on guitar. Their unique skills blended to form a distinct sound in Brazilian pop rock. This sound quickly caught on with local fans, setting them apart in the bustling music scene.
In their debut year, they launched an album featuring “40 graus,” which became a hit. This song climbed the Brazilian charts, marking a big step for both Twister and Brazilian pop rock music.
Twister Band History: Rise to Prominence
Twister’s journey started with our first album, “Twister,” in 2000, released by Abril Music. This album caught people’s attention with its lively beats and lyrics everyone could relate to. The hit song “40 graus” climbed to the top of the Brazilian charts, marking a key moment for us.
After our first album’s success, we quickly became stars, allowing us to tour beyond Brazil. In 2001, we made a big leap by entering the Spanish-speaking market. We released our music in Spanish, reaching fans in the US and Mexico. This step made us well-known in Latin pop music.

International Endeavours and Tours
In March 2001, we started a series of international tours after releasing our Spanish album. This big step introduced our Latin pop tunes to people around the world. We played in lively cities like Miami, Los Angeles, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The energy at our Twister concerts was amazing, showing how much fans loved our music. Being the opening act for ‘N Sync in Mexico helped us reach even more people. These tours made us more known in the Latin music scene and showed that our music is loved everywhere.
Even though we didn’t release the album in Brazil, we kept sharing our Latin pop sounds with fans all over. We wanted everyone to enjoy our music, no matter where they were from.

Setbacks and the Band’s Evolution
In 2002, we hit major roadblocks that deeply affected our journey. The shutdown of Abril Music stopped our vital support. This threw us off, making it tough to deal with sudden changes in music. Adding to the struggle, Sander Mecca was imprisoned due to drug issues. This led to the band breaking up temporarily in 2003, making us rethink our paths.
During this tough time, Mecca pursued his artistic goals through Meccamorfose. Richter worked on solo endeavours. Lucca chose a completely different career path. This phase, though hard, was essential in the band Twister’s growth. It helped shape who we are together.
We then took a short break. This pause let us think and come back together. The challenges we faced, like Mecca’s jail time, set the stage for a fresh start. We turned our struggles into opportunities, reigniting our creativity and drive as a band.
The Resurgence of Twister and Future Plans
In 2013, we joyfully announced Twister was back after a decade-long break. Our new single “Pé Na Estrada” brought us back into the music world. It caught the attention of long-time fans and introduced us to new ones. This has sparked our love for music anew and motivated us to create more captivating songs.
Looking forward, we have big plans that stick to our pop rock roots. We’re committed to making new songs that push our sound in fresh directions while still honoring what our fans love. We’re also planning a series of tours to meet fans all around the world. Our goal is to grow our global fan base and make the Twister family even bigger.
Our journey has taught us a lot, especially the importance of staying dedicated and open to change. Overcoming challenges during our break has made us stronger and more excited for the future. We can’t wait to see what’s next and to share our new music and live shows with you. We’re determined to make our mark on the music world with innovative tunes and unforgettable performances.
